Cody Loggains
Greens & Grounds Intern

My name is Cody Loggains, and I am currently enrolled in the 2-year program in Turfgrass Management at Penn State University. Before starting my journey at Penn State, I started my career on the golf course as a maintenance worker on the staff at Oxmoor Valley Golf Course in Birmingham Alabama. I spent 2 summers here, where I honed unique skills in order to better my knowledge and abilities before coming into the turf program at Penn. My favorite part about being able to learn on the golf course was the workload that was required to obtain prestigious conditions and maintain these conditions through everyday use. My next step in my journey of turfgrass, is my 6-month internship here at Carmel Country Club where I am hoping to gain the knowledge needed to maintain prestigious conditions every day. Some techniques and practices for efficient and effective turf management are water management, topdressing practices, mowing practices, and crew and culture management. During my time at Carmel, I will spend lots of time practicing working with the crew, as well as efficient team management and cultural practices. I will practice running the team for a week or two, gaining experience of having my own staff, and how they will react to assignments given to them every day. Using this knowledge, I will push myself to become the best superintendent I can become.
